Three men have been remanded in custody by Suva’s Magistrates Court after being charged with serious offenses related to illicit drugs and assault. The individuals, identified as 29-year-old Lemeki Baleiwai, 27-year-old Maciu Jiuta, and 23-year-old Asaeli Susewa, appeared before Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza.

Baleiwai faces a charge of possessing illicit drugs, specifically marijuana, while Jiuta and Susewa are charged with seriously assaulting two police officers during a raid on November 18, 2024. The Police Prosecutor informed the court that all necessary disclosures have been submitted to the defense, which has confirmed receipt of these documents.

The case is set to return to Court Four for a bail hearing and further mention on November 29.

This situation underscores the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces regarding drug-related crime and violence. It is crucial for communities and authorities to join forces to address these issues effectively, promoting awareness and prevention initiatives to ensure safer environments for all.
