Police in Labasa have taken significant action against the possession of illegal drugs at the municipal market, leading to multiple arrests since the start of the year. Acting Divisional Police Commander (DPC) North, Superintendent of Police (SP) Eroni Soqosoqo, emphasized that these arrests serve as a serious warning to those involved in drug trafficking.
Among those apprehended is a 35-year-old farmer from Kilikoso, who was found in possession of nine sachets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. Additionally, a 42-year-old unemployed man from Qelewaqa was arrested at the Labasa Market Taxi Stand with similar substances. In another related case, a 40-year-old man from Qelewaqa was detained at the Labasa Bus Stand with eleven sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. On January 2, a chef from Valebasogo was also caught with four sachets of the same substance.
The police were further successful in Tukavesi, Cakaudrove, where they seized containers holding 334 green plants thought to be marijuana. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu reported that drug-related arrests are occurring daily and expressed gratitude to local village leaders for their assistance in reporting illegal activities.
