Two men, aged 40 and 44 from Vusuya, Nausori, were arrested in Valelevu after being discovered with two ziplock bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was caught with 20 sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, presumed to be marijuana. In Lautoka, police arrested a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka who had five sachets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana as well.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu stated that police had conducted thorough checks for drugs during the Christmas festivities. He also noted that police teams would remain vigilant, monitoring picnic spots and communities for any illicit activities.

All six suspects are currently in police custody, pending drug analysis while investigations are ongoing.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces with drug possession, even during festive periods. It highlights the importance of community vigilance and support for police efforts to promote safety and security. While the holidays are typically a time for celebration, they can also pose risks, making law enforcement’s role crucial in maintaining public safety.
