Three individuals have been arrested in Lautoka for the unlawful possession of illicit drugs, highlighting ongoing challenges in drug enforcement in Fiji. Officers from the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and the Western Division Dog Unit made the arrests while responding to a report of a disturbance in the Saweni area. Upon searching a property, they discovered clear plastic bags containing a white substance believed to be methamphetamine. The alleged homeowner fled the scene, and law enforcement officials are actively pursuing his whereabouts.
In a separate incident, also emphasizing law enforcement’s vigilant approach to drug-related issues, officers in Labasa discovered an unattended bag at the market that contained several plastic bags filled with green leaves suspected to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, noted that a coordinated effort is crucial, with officers from various units collaborating to tackle both minor and major crimes. He highlighted the integral role of K9 capabilities in these operations, which enhance their ability to respond to reports and uphold public safety.
