Two men, both 35 years old, were arrested by police in Navua after authorities discovered dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine in their possession. These arrests were part of a series of recent police snap checks conducted across the country over the past month.

The Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU) initiated the first of these snap checks, leading to the confiscation of multiple sachets containing methamphetamine during a raid last Wednesday in Raiwai, located just outside Suva. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that the SD SOCIU, along with the K9 and Fiji Detector Dog Unit, also found what are believed to be stolen goods, as well as both foreign and local currency.

In addition to the two men, a woman was also arrested during this operation, with all seized items sent for further analysis.

Further checks were conducted at a police roadblock on Bagasau road in Savusavu, where officers inspecting a bus found a bag with dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. In another operation in the Western Division, two passengers were apprehended on Monday night when police discovered several branches of dried leaves they believed were marijuana.

ACP Driu indicated that the snap checks have been proving effective and pledged that these operations will continue across all five police divisions.

The ongoing efforts by law enforcement not only show a commitment to combating drug-related issues in the community but also highlight a proactive approach to ensuring public safety. As these operations continue to yield positive results, there is hope for a safer environment, fostering the well-being of residents in the region.
