Throughout the weekend, multiple drug-related arrests were executed for illegal possession and cultivation of illicit substances.
According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, authorities apprehended a 31-year-old individual in Caubati after finding clear plastic bags containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine, along with dried leaves thought to be marijuana.
ACP Driu further revealed that the suspect is under investigation for bribery, as he allegedly attempted to offer a police officer money at the time of his arrest.
He emphasized that police officers are continuously reminded of their vital role in disrupting drug trafficking and that attempts to undermine these efforts will not be tolerated. ACP Driu reassured the public that any allegations of police involvement in drug activities will prompt necessary disciplinary actions, including both internal and criminal investigations.
Additional arrests were made in Samabula and Sigatoka, leading to the detention of four men found in possession of substances believed to be methamphetamine. Furthermore, marijuana-related arrests occurred in Korovou, Tailevu, Lautoka, and Sigatoka. In Karoko, authorities seized over 100 plants in a case of illegal drug cultivation.
