Three individuals were apprehended yesterday on charges of possessing illegal drugs. Law enforcement officials from the Police K-9 Unit conducted a traffic stop along Waiyavi in Lautoka, where they searched two men: a 26-year-old mechanic from Sabeto Central and a 32-year-old resident of Duna Place in Nadi Town. During the search, the K-9 Unit discovered two clear plastic bags containing a white substance that is suspected to be methamphetamine.
In a separate incident, a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) driver from Cunningham was also taken into custody after he was found in possession of seedlings believed to be marijuana. Following this discovery, a specialized team from the Fiji Dog Detector Unit (FDDU) and the Police K-9 Unit executed a drug raid at the driver’s residence, leading to the finding of additional marijuana seedlings.
Currently, all three men remain in police custody as authorities continue their investigation into these drug-related offenses.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in tackling drug-related issues in the community. The proactive approach taken by the K-9 Unit and the FDDU underscores the commitment to maintaining public safety and addressing substance abuse. As awareness increases and enforcement measures are strengthened, there is hope for a safer and healthier community moving forward.
