Three men were taken into custody yesterday on charges related to drug possession. The arrests occurred when the Police K-9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Waiyavi, Lautoka. During the search, they discovered two clear plastic bags containing a white substance, suspected to be methamphetamine, connected to a 26-year-old mechanic from Sabeto Central and a 32-year-old man from Duna Place in Nadi Town.
In a separate case, a driver of a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) from Cunningham was also apprehended. He was found with seedlings that are believed to be marijuana. Following this, a team from the Fiji Dog Detector Unit (FDDU) and the Police K-9 Unit executed a drug raid at the man’s residence, where they uncovered additional marijuana seedlings.
All three individuals remain in police custody as investigations continue into the incidents.
This situation highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle drug-related activities in the community. While the circumstances are serious, it serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and collaboration between police and specialized units in maintaining public safety. It also underlines the continuing challenge of substance abuse, and initiatives to combat it could pave the way for a healthier community.
