In a recent crackdown on drug-related activities, police in the Northern Division arrested five individuals, including a 50-year-old businessman, over the course of two days. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed these arrests and emphasized the ongoing efforts to address drug-related issues during the festive season.
On December 27, officers discovered marijuana plants inside a residence in Naweni Village, Savusavu. Following this, a male suspect was taken into custody, and the marijuana samples have been sent for analysis.
The next day, four more arrests were made in Labasa. In Tuatua, a businessman was apprehended for possessing two aluminum foil-wrapped sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. A 20-year-old student from Batinivuruwai, Bua, was also found with a similar sachet in his possession. Further investigations at Naduna Settlement led to the apprehension of a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman, who were caught with various quantities of dried leaves stored in plastic and jars.
ACP Driu reiterated the police’s commitment to combatting drug offenses, stating that ongoing raids and special operations will continue throughout the holiday season.
