Several drug-related arrests occurred over the weekend for unlawful possession and cultivation of illegal substances.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that a 31-year-old man in Caubati was apprehended when police discovered clear plastic bags containing white crystals suspected to be methamphetamine, as well as dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

ACP Driu noted that the suspect is also under investigation for bribery after allegedly attempting to offer money to a police officer during his arrest. He emphasized the ongoing commitment of police officers to combat drug trafficking and stated that any attempts to undermine these efforts will not be tolerated.

He assured the public that if instances of police misconduct arise, appropriate disciplinary action will follow, including internal investigations and criminal proceedings.

Furthermore, additional arrests linked to white substances thought to be methamphetamine occurred in Samabula and Sigatoka, leading to the detention of four men. Arrests for marijuana were made in Korovou, Tailevu, Lautoka, and Sigatoka, while in Karoko, over 100 plants associated with unlawful cultivation of marijuana were seized.

The public is encouraged to report any suspicious drug-related activities by contacting Crimestoppers at 919 or 917.
