Two individuals were apprehended this morning in connection with the possession of illegal drugs. The arrest occurred during a coordinated operation by the Fiji Police and the Fiji Dog Detector Unit (FDDU) in Wailea, Vatuwaqa, where the suspects were found with 10 dried branches suspected to be marijuana.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu, the operation commenced around 2 a.m. “With the assistance of our K-9 capabilities from the FDDU, the team managed to locate the said drugs without much trouble,” ACP Driu remarked.
He emphasized that the police will persist in conducting drug raids, as well as performing checks at various checkpoints and monitoring individuals who may be loitering during late-night hours. The suspects are currently in police custody as the investigation proceeds.
This operation underscores the proactive measures being taken by law enforcement to combat drug-related issues in the community. As investigations continue, it reflects the commitment of the authorities to enhance public safety and deter illegal activity. The collaboration between police and specialized units like the FDDU serves as a promising strategy in maintaining law and order.
