Three individuals are currently in police custody following an operation that uncovered illicit drugs in Fiji. This incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when authorities, along with the Fiji Dog Detector Unit (FDDU), executed a raid on a residence located in Tamole Settlement, New Town.

During the raid, a 56-year-old man without employment and a 23-year-old car wash attendant cooperated with law enforcement by surrendering 117 sachets of a substance wrapped in aluminum foil, which is believed to contain marijuana.

Additionally, on the following day, a 53-year-old casual worker from the Newtown Settlement was also arrested for drug possession. In a similar operation, police and the FDDU, armed with a search warrant, conducted a search of the suspect’s home, leading to the voluntary surrender of a quantity of dried leaves thought to be marijuana.

The proactive measures taken by the police and the FDDU highlight their ongoing commitment to combatting drug-related activities in the community. The cooperation of some suspects in surrendering the drugs indicates a potential shift towards greater awareness and responsibility within the community regarding illicit substance use.

This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of community safety and the diligent efforts of law enforcement in ensuring drugs do not infiltrate neighborhoods. Encouraging open dialogue about drug issues could pave the way for increased community support and outreach programs to address this critical matter.
