Three men are currently in police custody following a drug bust involving illicit substances. The operation took place on Sunday afternoon when police, alongside the Fiji Dog Detector Unit (FDDU), conducted a raid at a residence in Tamole Settlement, New Town.

During the raid, a 56-year-old unemployed man and a 23-year-old car wash attendant willingly surrendered a total of 117 sachets of dried leaves, wrapped in aluminum foil, which are believed to be marijuana.

Additionally, on Monday, a 53-year-old casual worker from Newtown Settlement was also arrested for possession of illicit drugs. Following a search warrant, police and the FDDU visited the suspect’s home, where the individual voluntarily handed over a portion of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.

This ongoing police initiative highlights the commitment to combating drug-related issues within the community. The cooperation of the suspects in surrendering the illicit substances may indicate a broader willingness among the public to assist law enforcement in addressing drug abuse.

As communities rally together to tackle substance abuse problems, it is hoped that such actions can lead to increased awareness and preventive measures against drug-related offenses.
