Drug Bust in Fiji: Two Charged Amidst Ongoing Crackdown

Two individuals, a 37-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, have been charged with the unlawful possession of illicit drugs and are appearing in the Suva Magistrates Court today. Their arrest took place on April 1, 2025, during a joint operation conducted by the Southern Division Task Force, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU), and the Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Department at Howell Road.

During the operation, law enforcement officers seized multiple zip-lock bags containing white crystals, which were confirmed to be methamphetamine. The swift actions taken by the authorities underscore their ongoing commitment to combat drug-related issues within the community, which is part of the broader Operation Sasamaki aimed at tackling the illicit drug trade across Fiji’s policing divisions.

In conjunction with these arrests, police have been intensifying efforts across the Northern and Central Divisions, where marijuana farms have been discovered in regions like Savusavu, Tukavesi, and Kadavu. Additional mop-up operations targeting known drug cultivation areas have led to further arrests, while roadblocks and snap checks are being employed to enhance public safety.

The Fiji Police Force is also collaborating with the Fiji Corrections Service to conduct thorough checks of remand prisoners, further enhancing their strategies against drug offenses.

This sustained focus on addressing drug-related crime reflects the police’s commitment to fostering community safety and addressing the root causes of drug abuse. Through continued vigilance and community support, there remains a hopeful outlook towards reducing crime and improving public safety in Fiji. The upcoming court proceedings will not only address the allegations against the suspects but also serve as a pivotal point in the fight against drug-related offenses in the region.
