Authorities have apprehended five individuals in connection with drug-related offenses over the course of two days in the Northern Division. This announcement was made by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu.

On Friday, December 27, police conducted a raid in Naweni Village, Savusavu, where they discovered branches of leaves suspected to be marijuana hanging inside a residence. A male suspect was taken into custody, and the dried leaves have been seized for analysis.

The following day, four additional arrests were made in various locations around Labasa. Notably, a 50-year-old businessman was caught with two sachets of dried leaves, also believed to be marijuana, concealed in aluminum foil. A 20-year-old male student from Batinivuruwai, Bua, was found with another sachet of similar content. In Naduna Settlement, a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman were apprehended with a collection of items, including a sealed plastic bag and a jar containing dried leaves thought to be marijuana.

ACP Driu stated that all seized substances have been sent for testing, with results pending. He emphasized that police will persist in their drug enforcement efforts and special operations throughout the festive season.

This proactive approach by law enforcement highlights the ongoing commitment to combat drug trafficking and ensure community safety during times when drug use may increase. It conveys a hopeful message that authorities are working hard to protect public health and tackle substance abuse.

Summary: Five individuals have been arrested in the Northern Division for drug-related offenses, including a businessman and a student, following police raids that led to the seizure of various suspected marijuana products. Police confirm that further operations will continue during the festive season to combat drug use and trafficking.
