Five individuals, including a 50-year-old businessman, were apprehended by law enforcement in connection with drug-related offenses over the past two days in the Northern Division. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed these arrests yesterday.
On Friday, December 27, police discovered leaves suspected to be marijuana hanging on the walls inside a residence in Naweni Village, Savusavu, leading to the arrest of a male suspect. The seized dried leaves are currently awaiting analysis.
The following day, four more individuals were arrested from different locations in Labasa. In Tuatua, officers found a 50-year-old businessman in possession of two sachets of dried leaves thought to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. Additionally, a 20-year-old male student from Batinivuruwai, Bua, was arrested with one similar sachet.
At Naduna Settlement, a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman were found with various containers, including a sealed plastic, a sachet, and a jar containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana. All seized materials have been sent for analysis pending the results.
Assistant Commissioner Driu stated that police operations aimed at curbing drug-related activities will persist throughout the festive season, reaffirming their commitment to public safety.
