In a recent crackdown on drug-related activities, police in the Northern Division apprehended five individuals, including a 50-year-old businessman, over the past two days. This development was confirmed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu.

On December 27, during an operation in Naweni Village, Savusavu, law enforcement discovered branches of leaves suspected to be marijuana hanging within a residential property, leading to the arrest of a male suspect. The seized dried leaves are currently being analyzed.

The following day, four additional suspects were arrested in various locations around Labasa. Notably, a businessman was taken into custody for possessing two sachets of dried leaves, believed to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. In a separate incident, a 20-year-old male student was also found with a sachet of similar contents.

At Naduna Settlement, a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman were caught with a variety of packages containing dried leaves, adding to the ongoing drug-related arrests in the area. ACP Driu mentioned that all seized substances are pending laboratory analysis.

The police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying drug raids and special operations throughout the festive season, aiming to curb illegal activities and ensure public safety.

This proactive approach by the police not only aims to minimize the distribution and usage of drugs but also emphasizes a broader commitment to community safety during celebratory periods. Such measures can potentially foster a safer environment, allowing residents to enjoy festivities without the cloud of illegal activities overhead.

Overall, the ongoing efforts by law enforcement represent a hopeful step towards a safer community, especially during this time of year.
