Authorities in the Northern Division have made significant strides in combating drug-related activities, leading to the arrest of five individuals, including a 50-year-old businessman, over the course of two days. This information was shared by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu.
On Friday, December 27, police conducted a raid in Naweni Village, Savusavu, where they discovered branches of leaves believed to be marijuana hanging inside a residence. A male suspect was taken into custody, and the dried leaves are currently undergoing analysis.
The following day, Saturday, saw four additional arrests in various locations around Labasa. Among those apprehended was a 50-year-old businessman from Tuatua, who was found in possession of two sachets of dried leaves thought to be marijuana, neatly wrapped in aluminum foil. A 20-year-old male student from Batinivuruwai, Bua, was also arrested for possessing a sachet of similar substance.
At Naduna Settlement, law enforcement officials arrested a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman who were found with multiple items containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, including a sealed clear plastic bag and a jar.
Assistant Commissioner Driu assured the public that police would continue their drug raids and special operations throughout the festive season, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining community safety.
With ongoing efforts from law enforcement to address drug-related issues, there is hope for a safer environment during the festivities. It reflects a proactive approach to public safety and community well-being, showcasing the importance of vigilance in maintaining a drug-free society.
