In a recent police operation in Fiji’s Northern Division, five individuals have been apprehended concerning drug-related offenses. The arrests occurred over a span of two days, as confirmed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu.

The first incident took place on December 27 in Naweni Village, Savusavu, where authorities discovered branches of leaves suspected to be marijuana inside a residence. A male suspect was taken into custody, and the dried leaves have been collected for further analysis.

Subsequently, on Saturday, four additional arrests were made across various locations in Labasa. A 50-year-old businessman was found with two sachets of dried leaves, also believed to be marijuana, meticulously wrapped in aluminum foil. In the same locality, a 20-year-old male student from Batinivuruwai, Bua, was found in possession of one such sachet. At Naduna Settlement, a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman were discovered with a collection of contraband, including one sealed plastic bag, one sachet, and one jar containing similar dried leaves.

All items seized during these operations have been sent for testing, and police officials have indicated that they will continue to conduct drug raids and special operations throughout the festive season.

This uptick in police activity underscores the commitment to maintaining public safety and addressing drug-related issues, especially during a time of celebration. By reinforcing law enforcement efforts, authorities aim to deter illicit drug use and trafficking, ensuring a safer environment for all.

In summary, the recent police operations have led to significant arrests and an ongoing commitment to tackle drug-related offenses, highlighting the importance of community safety.
