Three men have been remanded by Suva’s Magistrates Court after being charged with serious offenses, including possession of illicit drugs and assault. The accused, Lemeki Baleiwai, 29, Maciu Jiuta, 27, and Asaeli Susewa, 23, appeared in front of Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza.

Baleiwai faces one count of possession of illicit drugs, specifically marijuana, while Jiuta and Susewa are charged with seriously assaulting two police officers during a raid on November 18, 2024. The Police Prosecutor informed the court that all relevant disclosures have been provided to the defendants, who confirmed receipt.

The case has now been scheduled for a bail hearing and further mention in Court Four on November 29.

This situation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related offenses and violence against police personnel. As the justice system processes these cases, it underscores the importance of public safety and accountability. The upcoming bail hearing may provide an opportunity for the defendants to present their cases and seek a fair resolution.

While the circumstances are serious, it’s essential to recognize the commitment of authorities in addressing such issues within the community, reflecting a broader initiative to uphold the rule of law and discourage illicit activities.
