The Queen Victoria School Old Boys Association (QVSOB) has received a generous sponsorship of $4,000 from Pacific Energy for this year’s Druavesi golf tournament. The check was presented by Amit Maharaj, the chief marketing officer of Pacific Energy, to QVSOB president Alipate Ledua and tournament organizer Sai Tokalau.
This year’s Druavesi tournament, which marks its 31st anniversary, is poised to be an exciting event, expected to attract between 80 to 200 participants from various regions, including distant locations like Labasa. Unlike previous years, the competition will not be exclusive to QVSOB members; alumni from other schools around the country are also invited to take part. The Fiji Golf Club will field its own team, broadening participation and fostering community spirit.
Ledua expressed his appreciation for Pacific Energy’s continual support, emphasizing their partnership which has been in place since 2011. Notably, the tournament has seen an increase in the number of participants year after year, highlighting its growing popularity.
Maharaj commented on the successful inclusion of young golfers in last year’s tournament, emphasizing the unique opportunity it presented for secondary school students to participate in such a significant event. Organiser Tokalau shared his hopes that this year’s tournament will encourage more students to engage in the sport.
The one-day tournament is scheduled for this Friday at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva, promising a day filled with camaraderie and competition.
This event not only strengthens ties among alumni but also encourages young talent in the golfing community, making it a positive catalyst for fostering new generations of golfers in Fiji.
