The Queen Victoria School Old Boys Association (QVSOB) recently received a generous contribution of $4,000 from Pacific Energy for this year’s Druavesi golf tournament. The cheque was presented by Amit Maharaj, the Chief Marketing Officer of Pacific Energy, to QVSOB President Alipate Ledua and tournament organizer Sai Tokalau.
This year’s tournament is expected to draw between 80 to 200 participants from across the nation, including golfers coming from as far as Labasa. Now in its 31st year, the Druavesi tournament is evolving to not only feature QVSOB members but also alumni from various schools throughout Fiji. Additionally, the Fiji Golf Club will send its own team to compete.
Ledua expressed his gratitude for Pacific Energy’s ongoing support, highlighting that the company has backed the tournament since 2011. He noted that the growing interest in the event is evident from the increasing number of participants each year. Maharaj also mentioned that the inclusion of young golfers in both last year’s and this year’s tournaments has been particularly exciting, noting how unique it is to see secondary school golfers participating.
Organiser Tokalau remains optimistic that the tournament will motivate students to engage with the sport and participate in future events. The one-day Druavesi golf tournament is scheduled to take place this Friday at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva.
This event not only celebrates the spirit of competition but also emphasizes community engagement and the development of young golfing talent in Fiji. With sponsors like Pacific Energy committed to supporting such initiatives, the future of the Druavesi tournament and youth engagement in sports looks bright.
