Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has announced plans to closely monitor the upcoming Skipper Cup competition as part of their strategy to enhance their squad. With the tournament set to kick off on August 2, Jackson emphasized the importance of this event for identifying talent to join the Drua, stating, “Every competition that features Fijian-qualified players, whether it’s the Skipper Cup, overseas leagues, Deans, or even Sevens, we look at all of them.”

Jackson further noted that the Drua management remains proactive regarding player movements and departures, keen to recruit skilled individuals who genuinely wish to represent the team. The Drua have a history of selecting talent from various local competitions, which they plan to continue during this season’s Skipper Cup.

In a related initiative, the Fiji Rugby Union has organized all provincial competitions, including the Skipper Cup, Marama Cup, Vodafone Vanua Cup, and Royal Tea Ranadi Cup, to take place from August 2 to November 1, 2025. This scheduling aims to prevent overlaps with other major competitions like the Super Rugby Pacific, and address venue availability, as many rugby clubs lack dedicated grounds.

This focus on player development and scouting aligns with the Drua’s commitment to building a robust and diverse squad. The upcoming competitions promise an exciting opportunity for young athletes eager to showcase their skills and potentially earn a spot on a growing team that nurtures local talent.

The Drua’s proactive approach and dedication to fostering homegrown talent not only seeks to strengthen their competitive edge but also contributes positively to the rugby community in Fiji, instilling pride and passion for the sport within the nation.
