The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua are currently enjoying a pre-season training camp on Kadavu, providing them with a unique experience in the southern region. They arrived early yesterday at the Namalata District School, where they are being accommodated throughout their four-day camp.

The team was greeted with a traditional welcome ceremony, adding a cultural touch to their stay. Fresh fish was served for breakfast, marking an authentic local experience for the players. Head coach Glen Jackson expressed the significance of the traditional kava mixing ritual, noting that many players had not witnessed this before. He praised the welcoming nature of the Kadavu people and the delightful meals provided.

The journey to Kadavu was enlightening as well, with some players experiencing the boat ride for the first time. Many found it adventurous, especially as the ride was a bit bumpy at times, leading to some laughter among them. Jackson highlighted the beautiful weather during their stay and appreciated the stunning experience of arriving at sunrise.

This marks the first occasion the Drua have conducted pre-season training away from the mainland, following in the footsteps of the Flying Fijians who previously traveled to Taveuni in their preparations for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. The Drua are set to return to Suva on Friday.

This pre-season camp is not just about training; it represents an opportunity for team bonding and cultural immersion, which can greatly enhance the players’ sense of unity and purpose as they prepare for the season ahead. The spirit of camaraderie and adventure showcased in their journey is sure to foster stronger relationships within the team.
