Drua’s Road to Redemption: Can Home Wins Propel Away Success?

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is gearing up for the 2025 Super Rugby season, where they will play seven home matches. Mark Evans, the team’s CEO, emphasized the importance of establishing a winning streak early in their home games to improve their chances in away matches. In an interview this week, Evans pointed out the significant difference between the team’s performance at home and their struggles on the road, which is common for younger teams.

Many players who have progressed from the Drua to the Flying Fijians have shown success in away games, according to Evans. He expressed confidence that the Drua’s away performance will eventually improve, considering that the majority of the players are the same. “It’s probably just a matter of time,” he stated, dismissing the idea that a psychological barrier exists, as evidenced by the Flying Fijians’ consistent success in international competitions.

Last season, the Drua faced challenges, losing eight away games alongside two at home. With a focus on maximizing their home advantage, the team aims to turn the tide and become more competitive on the road in the upcoming season.
