The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has parted ways with young centre Waqa Nalaga, also known as Epeli Waqaicece. At just 21 years old, Nalaga joined the team last year after showcasing his talent with the Fiji U20 team and a stint in New Zealand.

Waqa Nalaga comes from a family with a rich rugby heritage; he is the son of former Flying Fijians winger Kavekini Nalaga and the brother of ex-national representative Napolioni Nalaga. Just recently, he was listed as one of the four centres for the upcoming 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season.

The Drua confirmed his departure with a brief statement, indicating they followed the proper procedures in releasing him from the club, which is based in Namatakula, Nadroga. The team noted they have no further comments on the matter.

While the departure of such a promising player might seem disappointing, it offers Nalaga an opportunity to explore new avenues in his rugby career. For fans and followers of the Fijian Drua, the club can still rely on its strong roster as they prepare for the exciting challenges of the next season.
