The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s aspirations for a top-six finish in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific faced a significant blow after their 34-15 defeat to Moana Pasifika. This loss marks the Drua’s eighth in the competition, which severely diminishes their playoff ambitions.

Moana Pasifika started strong, quickly taking a 5-0 lead with Danny Toala’s opening try in the corner. The advantage was soon expanded when Miracle Faiilagi scored another try shortly after, leaving the Drua without a response. A missed penalty opportunity by Drua fly-half Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula added to their frustration. Moana continued their dominance, with Semisi Tupou Taeiloa adding another try, bringing the halftime score to 17-0.

In the second half, Moana further asserted their control with a try from a rolling maul, pushing the score to 22-0. The Drua finally registered points when captain Tevita Ikanivere broke through for a try, bringing it to 22-7. Armstrong-Ravula added a penalty to narrow the score to 22-10. However, Moana quickly responded with a try from seasoned All Blacks player Julian Savea. The Drua’s Taniela Rakuro responded soon after with a try, making it 27-15, but they couldn’t manage to score again, and a late intercept try by Tevita Ofa sealed the game for Moana.

The defeat highlights ongoing challenges for the Drua in their campaign, as they have struggled with consistency and execution throughout the season. Similar previously reported matches have shown the team facing similar issues, emphasizing the need for discipline and strategic refinements. Coach Glen Jackson has underscored the importance of focusing on effective management of game situations.

Despite these hurdles, there remains optimism for the future. The Drua’s younger talents, such as Ponipate Loganimasi, have shown potential, and the dedication of their fanbase continues to be a source of encouragement for the team. If the Drua can learn from their setbacks and refine their gameplay, they could still take steps toward a stronger finish in the remainder of the season. The resilience seen in their younger players suggests that brighter days lie ahead for the team if they can harness this potential.
