The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua experienced a significant learning opportunity after their 50-14 defeat to the Waratahs in the last year’s Super W grand-final, as underscored by head coach Ifereimi Rawaqa in a recent interview. He emphasized three key areas the team needs to focus on: fitness, discipline, and consistency.

Rawaqa pointed out that the Waratahs’ superior fitness level was a deciding factor in the match and acknowledged the team’s need to enhance their players’ fitness while continuing to develop their rugby skills. With the new Super W season on the horizon, he noted, “We have completed our seven-week block. The focus now is on strengthening conditions. We want to make sure we are on the same level as the Waratahs.”

Furthermore, Rawaqa highlighted the importance of building a culture of consistency and discipline within the team, both on and off the field. He believes that fostering resilience and mental toughness is essential, as the absence of mental toughness can lead to indiscipline.

The Drua women’s team has shown impressive past performance, winning the Super W title in both 2022 and 2023, but they finished as runners-up last year. Looking ahead, they are set to face the Waratahs on February 28 at Allianz Stadium in Sydney and will continue their season with matches against the Reds and Brumbies at home in Lautoka.

This upcoming season provides the Drua an excellent opportunity to demonstrate their growth and commitment to improvement, and fans are hopeful that the lessons learned will lead to a stronger performance this time around.
