Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s head coach, Glen Jackson, has announced that veteran hooker Mesulame Dolokoto will take on the captaincy against the Highlanders in Dunedin this Saturday. This decision comes after the co-captain Frank Lomani was ruled out due to a dislocated shoulder, requiring surgery and rest to ensure his recovery ahead of the November tests.

Jackson explained the situation regarding Lomani, highlighting the need to prioritize his long-term health: “Frank tried hard to look after that shoulder but unfortunately it succumbed to another dislocation, which is disappointing for him and the club.”

Dolokoto’s selection as captain reflects Jackson’s confidence in his leadership abilities, even though he hasn’t had extensive playing time recently. Jackson praised Dolokoto’s leadership off the field and expressed enthusiasm for his contributions in the upcoming match. “He’s been here since day one, played a lot of rugby, not only in Fiji but also in New Zealand, so he’ll take over the leadership,” Jackson stated.

The team also anticipates the debut of rookie halfback Philip Baselala, who is set to start from the bench. Jackson reassured fans about the squad’s current condition, noting the importance of adaptability in light of injuries, which has allowed younger players to step up.

Further implications from recent matches indicate that the Drua has had mixed success, facing challenges against tough opponents like the Crusaders. Injuries have required strategic adjustments, reflecting the squad’s resilience as they navigate their Super Rugby Pacific campaign. The spirit within the team remains high, with the players eager to seize this opportunity against the Highlanders to turn their fortunes around.

The upcoming match not only presents a chance to earn valuable points but also serves as an opportunity for growth and team cohesion. Supporters are hopeful that with Dolokoto at the helm and the incorporation of fresh talent, the Drua will deliver a competitive performance and continue to build momentum for the season.
