Co-captain Tevita Ikanivere of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has pointed to a lack of proper mindset as a factor contributing to their recent away game losses. This assessment follows their disappointing 15-52 defeat to the Western Force during round six of Super Rugby Pacific at HBF Park in Perth.
Ikanivere stated, “We’ve prepared well through the week and we came here today and just didn’t execute as we wanted.” Despite the challenging result, he remains optimistic, promising fans that the team will regroup and aim for a stronger performance in the latter half of the Super Rugby Pacific season.
In the recent match, players Ilaisa Droasese, Taniela Rakuro, and Etonia Waqa managed to score for the Drua, but their efforts were overshadowed by the Force’s relentless offensive display, especially in the first half, where they established a significant lead. This match highlighted critical areas needing improvement, particularly discipline and execution in set-pieces—a sentiment echoed by head coach Glen Jackson, who has been vocal about the need for better focus during games.
Looking ahead, the Drua will enjoy a bye week in round seven, providing them with an opportunity to reflect and refine their strategies. They are set to face the formidable Crusaders at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on April 5, which will be a crucial encounter for reinstating their momentum this season.
The Drua’s journey thus far has not been easy; however, the promise shown by players like Rakuro and Waqa, coupled with the steadfast support from their fans, represents a source of hope for the team. The upcoming break may serve as a turning point, allowing the Drua to enhance their game and strive toward success as they move forward in the competition.
