The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women displayed remarkable resilience by overcoming the Brumbies Women with a score of 21-15 in a thrilling Super W match at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Facing challenging weather conditions and an initial strong performance from the Brumbies, the Drua staged a dramatic comeback in the second half.

The Brumbies took an early lead thanks to a try from winger Biola Dawa and maintained a narrow 5-0 advantage at halftime. Though the Drua had opportunities, they struggled with handling errors against the firm defense of the Brumbies. However, the tide turned after the break as the Drua intensified their game. Vika Matarugu scored first for the Drua, converting the try to take a 7-5 lead.

Despite a brief resurgence from the Brumbies, who capitalized on a Drua error to regain the lead at 15-14, the Drua’s determination prevailed in the closing moments. In a strategic play, Drua earned a key penalty and, opting for a lineout instead of a kick, they pressed forward with powerful forward play, culminating in Salanieta Nabuli scoring the decisive try in the dying moments. Luisa Basei’s successful conversion sealed the victory at 21-15.

Captain Bitila Tawake expressed gratitude, attributing the win to teamwork and faith in one another, while Brumbies captain Siokapesi Palu acknowledged the fighting spirit of both teams.

This victory highlights the growing competitiveness of women’s rugby in the Pacific region and serves as an inspiring example of resilience in sports. With community support and the right blend of experience and emerging talent, there is a hopeful outlook for the Drua as they continue their Super W campaign, aiming for greater achievements as the season progresses. Fans can look forward to more exciting matches ahead as the team refines its strategies to keep the momentum going.
