Drua’s Disappointing Treatment Sparks Controversy in Super Rugby

Former Flying Fijian and Crusaders winger Nemani Nadolo has voiced his disappointment regarding the treatment of the Fijian Drua Men’s team before their match against the Hurricanes in Napier, New Zealand, two weeks prior. A social media post surfaced, revealing that Drua members were transported at the back of a truck carrying their luggage to the hotel, an incident Nadolo described as frustrating. He highlighted the contrast with how Super Rugby teams are treated when they visit Fiji, emphasizing the disparity in hospitality.

“Every time Super Rugby franchises visit Fiji, they’re treated like royalty with police escorts and top-tier hospitality,” Nadolo noted. He pointed out that, in contrast, members of the Drua were also denied a late checkout at their hotel, while the Hurricanes were allowed extended rest time before the match.

This incident of inequitable treatment parallels previous comments from Nadolo, who has been vocal about the challenges faced by the Drua as they strive to establish themselves in the Super Rugby Pacific. In earlier statements, he has expressed hope for the team’s future, urging the players to minimize mistakes and maintain discipline to improve their performance on the field.

Fijian Drua captain Frank Lomani, following a close 38-34 loss to the Hurricanes, echoed concerns raised by Nadolo, as he addressed critical mistakes made by the team that cost them victory. Lomani underscored the emergence of young talent and resilience within the squad, indicating a brighter outlook as the Drua regroup for future matches.

As the Drua prepare to face the Waratahs, fans remain hopeful that the team can learn from these challenges and build on their foundation for the remainder of the season. The unity displayed by players like Nadolo and Lomani highlights a collective commitment to improving the Drua’s standing in the competition, fostering optimism for a successful rugby year ahead.
