The Fijian Drua is gearing up for its annual Community Blitz, kicking off the initiative in Vanua Levu with some of Fiji’s fervent supporters. Ben Takubu, the Drua Community Programme Lead, shared that this effort aims to engage players beyond the traditional rugby settings to promote awareness about healthy lifestyles while nurturing future rugby talent.
The Community Blitz serves a dual purpose: it seeks to inspire young people to adopt healthy habits through physical activity, nutritious eating, and by showcasing rugby via the Get Into Rugby Program (GIR). Takubu emphasized that this initiative not only aims to energize fans ahead of the upcoming season and home matches but also aids in the personal development of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players.
“The community activation is a reminder for the players of their important role as role models to fans,” Takubu stated. He noted that each time they don the Drua jersey, players represent their communities and the wider country.
As part of the initiative, the Drua players will visit several schools across Fiji, including Seaqaqa District School, Nakelo District School, and Sanatan Dharam Primary School, among others. The selection of schools was made in conjunction with the Fiji Rugby Union’s Development Unit, ensuring a thoughtful approach to community engagement.
This initiative highlights the Drua’s commitment to not only advancing sports but also fostering healthier communities and shaping the next generation of athletes.
