The Fijian Drua is set to launch its annual Community Blitz, kicking off with a special event in Vanua Levu, aimed at engaging some of Fiji’s most dedicated fans. Ben Takubu, the Community Programme Lead for the Drua, highlighted the initiative’s focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle while shaping future rugby talent.
“The Community Blitz is designed to bring players into the community to inspire young people to make healthier lifestyle choices. We’ll showcase physical activities, healthy eating habits, and the joys of our sport through the Get Into Rugby Program (GIR),” Takubu explained. He added that this event also serves as a way to generate excitement among fans for the approaching season and home matches.
Additionally, the community initiative presents a valuable opportunity for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players to engage in self-development. “It’s a reminder of the important role they play as role models for their fans,” Takubu commented. “Every time they don the Drua uniform, they represent their communities and the country.”
As part of this initiative, the Drua players will visit several schools across Fiji, including Seaqaqa District School, Nakelo District School, Sanatan Dharam Primary School, John Wesley Primary School, Pundit Vishnu Primary School, Lautoka Methodist Primary School, Lautoka Central Primary School, Vatukoula Marist Convent School, and Tavua Primary School. The selection of participating schools was made in collaboration with the Fiji Rugby Union’s Development Unit.
This initiative not only fosters community bonds but also inspires youth to engage in sports and prioritize their health, creating a brighter future for Fiji’s rugby landscape.
The Drua’s efforts exemplify a positive commitment to community engagement and youth development, encouraging the next generation to embrace both sports and healthy living.
