Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s head coach, Glen Jackson, has reiterated his commitment to keeping the team entirely Fijian as they prepare for the 2026 Super Rugby season. Proud of being the only club in the competition that consists solely of players from its own country, Jackson has emphasized that maintaining this identity has always been a core goal of the organization.
“We are very proud as a club to be 100 percent Fijian, and we will stick with that,” Jackson stated. He added that a key focus for the coaching staff will be scouting new talents, particularly while observing the Fiji U20 team competing in the Oceania Rugby Challenge currently underway in Nadi. In this pursuit, he is also keeping an eye on local competitions such as the Deans Trophy, Farebrother Challenge, and the Skipper Cup.
This approach aligns with Jackson’s previous strategies that highlighted the importance of nurturing homegrown talent and integrating them into the Drua squad. As reported, Jackson is keen on evaluating players participating in various competitions to build a competitive roster that not only enhances the team but also strengthens the local rugby community.
The Drua’s commitment to developing local players while reflecting their rich Fijian heritage fosters a sense of pride within the community and inspires younger athletes to aspire to play at a higher level. As excitement builds for the upcoming season, the Drua’s proactive recruitment strategy promises to reinforce their unique Fijian identity in the world of rugby.
