Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s head coach Ifereimi Rawaqa is gearing up his team for an important clash against the Western Force this Sunday. With a few adjustments necessary due to injuries, including the absence of fly-half Salanieta Kinita following a failed head injury assessment, Rawaqa remains optimistic about his team’s preparation.
“Things happen, but the important aspect is our ability to adapt to the situation,” Rawaqa stated. Kolora Lomani will step in at fly-half, a decision that aligns with the team’s depth-building strategy evaluated earlier in the season. “At the beginning of this year, we identified positions that required strengthening, including our 10, and we prepared players for moments like this,” he added.
Facing Western Force will undoubtedly be a challenge, as they play on their home turf. However, Rawaqa insists that maintaining focus on their own game is paramount. “They’ll be tough, especially playing in front of their home crowd. We must concentrate on our strategies and perform as a cohesive unit,” he explained.
Player fatigue is a concern for the Drua, especially with four consecutive matches played. Nevertheless, Rawaqa expressed confidence in their fitness regime and game preparations. “We train above the game demands in terms of intensity. Fitness-wise, I think we are ready. However, individual basic skills have let us down at times, and we worked diligently to improve those.”
The Drua Women aim to execute a clear game plan focused on retaining possession and building phases, hoping to secure a crucial win in their Super W campaign. As they approach this significant match, the team not only strives for victory but also promotes the growing visibility and support for women’s rugby in Fiji, inspiring future generations of athletes.
Fans are encouraged to rally behind the Drua, highlighting the importance of their journey and the impactful role women’s rugby plays in fostering community engagement and development in the region. With hopes high for a successful outcome, the Drua Women are eager to demonstrate their skills and commitment to the sport.
