The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s team celebrated an exhilarating 23-17 victory over the defending champions, the NSW Waratahs, in their opening match of the 2025 Super W season held at Allianz Stadium. This win is particularly poignant as it offers redemption after their defeat to the Waratahs in last year’s grand final.

Vice-captain Vitalina Naikore set an impressive pace by scoring one of the fastest tries in Super W history just 10 seconds into the match. Her early efforts laid the groundwork for a strong first half, where the Drua controlled the game and achieved a commanding 20-5 lead at halftime. Luisa Tisolo was instrumental as well, converting penalties and bolstering the team’s advantage, while newcomer Josivini Naihamu left her mark by scoring a try in her debut.

Despite a determined second-half rally from the Waratahs, the Drua’s strong defensive efforts secured their victory. Coach Ifereimi Rawaqa expressed pride in the team’s performance, highlighting the effective blend of experience and youthful talent, which is poised to drive their ambitions throughout the season.

Looking ahead, the Drua Women will face the Reds at Churchill Park in Lautoka, aiming to maintain their winning momentum. Their impressive skill and tenacity have reignited enthusiasm among fans, suggesting a bright future for women’s rugby in Fiji and the broader Pacific region.

As the Drua progress in the Super W competition, their achievements are a testament to both individual talent and the ongoing growth of women’s sports in the region. This promising start for the team has fans hopeful for an exciting season ahead.
