Aiming for a top two finish in the regular season, the Drua Women could potentially secure a semi-final match at home, adding to the excitement for local supporters.
The season will also introduce a historic Super Rugby Champions final, where the winners of Super Rugby W will compete against the champions of New Zealand’s Super Rugby Aupiki.
The Drua will kick off their home matches with an exciting double header in Lautoka on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The Drua Women will face the Reds at 1:05 PM, followed by the Drua Men taking on the Chiefs at 3:30 PM. A week later, on March 15, the Drua Women will challenge the formidable Brumbies Women in a standalone match at 3:30 PM, both held at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
The Fijian Drua Women will begin their season away against the Waratahs at Allianz Stadium in Sydney on February 28, before returning to Fiji for their subsequent fixtures. Their final regular season match is scheduled for March 23 against the Western Force at HBF Park in Perth.
Super Rugby W semi-finals will take place on April 5, with the top two ranked teams hosting, followed by the Grand Final on April 12, and the crossover final between the Super Rugby Women’s and Super Rugby Aupiki Champions on April 17.
Mark Evans, the chief executive officer of the Fijian Drua, noted that the team has had significant successes in the previous years, winning the Super Rugby Women in both 2022 and 2023 and finishing as runners-up in 2024. He expressed the team’s commitment to returning to the championship podium in 2025, acknowledging the challenges ahead.
Evans also mentioned that this year marks a period of rebuilding for their women’s program, with the appointment of a new interim head coach focusing on developing a deeper roster of players. Notably, the organization has made considerable investments in training facilities over the off-season to ensure that the Drua Women are well-prepared when pre-season begins in December.
He expressed enthusiasm about hosting two matches in Fiji, highlighting the importance of local support, especially with the Drua Women playing on International Women’s Day, which the team is planning to celebrate.
In summary, the 2025 Super Rugby Women’s season promises to be thrilling for both the players and fans, with significant home matches, a focus on development, and a commitment to celebrating women’s rugby in Fiji. This year is not only about competition but also about building community and creating memorable experiences for fans, especially on significant dates like International Women’s Day.
