The 2025 Super Rugby Women’s competition has unveiled an exciting schedule that allows the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women to host two key matches. Aiming for a top two finish in the regular season, the Drua Women have the opportunity to host a semi-final in Fiji, a significant advantage for the team and their fans.
Notably, the 2025 season will also introduce a groundbreaking Super Rugby Champions final, where the winner of Super Rugby W will face off against the champion of New Zealand’s Super Rugby Aupiki, underscoring the growing prestige of women’s rugby.
The Drua will kick off their season against the Waratahs at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney on February 28. Following this, they will return home to Lautoka for two pivotal matches: first against the Reds on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day, as part of an exciting double-header at Churchill Park. This match is scheduled to start at 1:05 PM, followed by the men’s team facing the Chiefs at 3:30 PM. The Drua Women will then play the Brumbies on March 15 in a standalone match at the same venue, set for a 3:30 PM kick-off.
The regular season culminates with a final away match against the Western Force in Perth on March 23. The Super Rugby W semi-finals are slated for the weekend of April 5, with top-ranked teams hosting, while the Grand Final will take place on April 12. A crossover final featuring champions from Super Rugby Women’s and Super Rugby Aupiki is also projected for April 17.
Mark Evans, the Chief Executive Officer of Fijian Drua, emphasized the team’s aspirations to reclaim their championship title after winning consecutively in 2022 and 2023, and finishing as runners-up in 2024. He noted that the team is currently in a rebuilding phase, introducing a new interim head coach to enhance depth and broaden their player base. Significant investments in training facilities have been made during the off-season to equip the Drua Women with the best preparation for their season.
Evans expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of hosting matches in Fiji, highlighting the joy this brings to the local fans who are eager to support the Drua teams. The unique coincidence of their match falling on International Women’s Day is particularly special, and planning is already underway to ensure a memorable experience for both players and supporters alike.
This season offers a promising outlook for the Fijian Drua Women, as they continue to evolve and elevate the profile of women’s rugby in Fiji and beyond. With community support and significant preparations in place, there’s great hope that the Drua Women will achieve their desired success on the field.
