Drua Women Gear Up for Semi-Final Showdown: A New Captain and Hopeful Spirits!

The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s rugby team has unveiled its squad for the Super Rugby Women’s semi-final against the Queensland Reds, scheduled for this Sunday in Brisbane. A pivotal change in leadership comes as Kara Naisewa steps up to captain the team, replacing Vika Matarugu, who will miss the remainder of the season due to injury.

The Drua will also face challenges in the front row, with the absence of regular loosehead prop Salanieta Nabuli. Bitila Tawake, who has previously played in this position, will take the starting role at loosehead, supported by Anasimeci Korovata at tighthead and Keleni Marawa as hooker. The second row will feature Mereoni Nakesa and Asinate Serevi, while Alfreda Fisher and Salaseini Railumu complete the back row, with Naisewa positioned as number 8.

Leading the backline, Kolora Lomani will operate at halfback and Salanieta Kinita returns to flyhalf duties. The wings are assigned to Alowesi Nakoci and Repeka Tove, while Ema Adivitaloga steps in for the injured Josivini Naihamu at inside centre, with Vice-Captain Vitalina Naikore at outside centre and Luisa Tisolo at fullback.

The replacements for the match include Isabella Koi as a backup hooker, Loraini Senivutu at loosehead, and Tiana Robanakadavu covering tighthead prop. Other backups include Nunia Daunimoala for locks, Rusila Nagasau supporting the loose forwards, and Setaita Railumu covering halfback.

This semi-final marks a critical moment for the Drua, who finished third in the competition following strong performances, including a notable win against the NSW Waratahs. Fans are eager to see them in action, as this match not only stands as an important sporting event but also promotes increased visibility for women’s rugby in the Pacific region.

The positivity surrounding the Drua Women’s efforts is not just about potential victories on the field; it also represents a broader movement towards greater recognition and support for female athletes in rugby, inspiring future generations to take up the sport and strive for excellence. The excitement leading up to the semi-final holds promise for the team as they seek to make their mark in women’s rugby.
