Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s head coach Ifereimi Rawaqa is preparing his team for a crucial match against the Western Force on Sunday. Despite facing challenges with player injuries, including the loss of fly-half Salanieta Kinita due to a failed head injury assessment, Rawaqa remains confident in his squad’s adaptability and depth.
With this in mind, Kolora Lomani will take over at fly-half, a move that reflects the preparations the team undertook earlier in the season to strengthen key positions. Rawaqa emphasized the importance of flexibility in responding to unexpected situations, stating, “Things happen, but the important aspect is our ability to adapt to the situation.”
The Drua will face the Western Force on their home ground, which presents its own set of challenges. However, Rawaqa believes that focusing on their own gameplay is essential. “They’ll be tough, especially playing in front of their home crowd. We must concentrate on our strategies and perform as a cohesive unit,” he pointed out.
Player fatigue is another concern for the Drua as they approach their fifth consecutive match. Nevertheless, Rawaqa reassured that their training intensity exceeds game demands, which prepares them well. “Fitness-wise, I think we are ready. However, individual basic skills have let us down at times, and we worked diligently to improve those.”
The Drua Women aim to implement a clear game plan centered around retaining possession and building phases. This approach is crucial as they seek a vital win in their Super W campaign. Additionally, the team is committed to promoting the growth and visibility of women’s rugby in Fiji, serving as role models for future athletes.
Support from fans is vital for the Drua as they continue their journey and highlight the importance of women’s rugby in fostering community development in the region. As hopes rise for a victorious outcome, the Drua Women are poised to showcase their dedication and skill in the upcoming match.
