The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women’s rugby team is preparing for a critical match against the Western Force this weekend in Round 4 of the Super Rugby Women. Head Coach Ifereimi Rawaqa is optimistic about the team’s prospects, particularly with Kolora Lomani stepping into the flyhalf position for this important game.

The starting lineup features prop Salanieta Nabuli, who was instrumental in securing a winning try last week, at loosehead prop, alongside captain Vika Matarugu at tighthead and Keleni Marawa at hooker. The second row is fortified by the pairing of Merevesi Ofakimalino and Asinate Serevi. Nunia Daunimoala will take on the blindside flanker role, with Salaseini Railumu in the openside flanker position and Karalaini Naisewa positioned at number 8.

In the backline, Evivi Senikarivi will play halfback, with Lomani directing play at flyhalf. The wings will be manned by Merewairita Neivosa on the left and Repeka Tove on the right, while Josivini Naihamu and Vitalina Naikore will occupy the center positions. Luisa Tisolo is slated to start at fullback.

Rawaqa has assembled a robust bench that includes Loraini Senivutu as the backup hooker, Anasimeci Korovata as loosehead prop, and Tiana Robanakadavu backing up the tighthead position. Support for the locks comes from Alfreda Fisher, while Bitila Tawake will strengthen the loose forward trio. Setaita Railumu and Ema Adivitaloga are available for halfback and inside halves support, and Alowesi Nakoci will serve as a utility back-line player.

This upcoming match is significant as it reflects the team’s dedication to developing women’s rugby and highlights their recent achievements on the field. The familial bonds among teammates, including sibling connections, emphasize the unity and passion driving the Drua women’s team.

With kickoff scheduled for 1:05 PM, excitement is building among fans eager to rally behind the Drua as they work to increase the visibility of women’s rugby in the region. Each game represents not only a quest for victory but also the chance to inspire future generations of female athletes, potentially marking a transformative season for women’s sports in Fiji and beyond.
