The Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua Women’s rugby team is gearing up for an exciting rematch against the NSW Waratahs at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium, kicking off the Smartech Business Systems Super Rugby Women competition. Under the guidance of Head Coach Ifereimi Rawaqa, the team boasts a strong roster featuring a mix of seasoned athletes and six debutants, including representatives Alfreda Fisher, Josivini Naihamu, and Alowesi Nakoci.
Captain Vika Matarugu, known for her extensive experience, will lead the charge as the team seeks redemption following their grand final defeat to the Waratahs. Vitalina Naikore, serving as vice-captain, will bring her valuable insights to support the squad. Matarugu is set to play tighthead prop, complemented by Salanieta Nabuli at loosehead and Keleni Marawa as hooker.
In the lock positions, Mereoni Nakesa and Asinate Serevi will form a strong partnership, while Alfreda Fisher will play at blindside flanker alongside Salaseini Railumu on openside flanker. Former captain Karalaini Naisewa will complete the forward pack at number 8.
The backline will see Kolora Lomani returning to the halfback position, pairing with flyhalf Salanieta Kinita. The wings will be secured by Nakoci and Repeka Tove, while Naihamu and Naikore will take on the centre roles. Luisa Tisolo will finish the starting lineup as the fullback.
On the bench, rookie Isabella Koi will step in as backup hooker, joined by Loraini Senivutu and Ana Korovata as prop cover. Adivitaloga and Bitila Tawake will be available for locks and loose forwards, while Evivi Senikarivi and Litiana Vueti will provide support to the halfback and flyhalf positions, respectively. Merewairita Neivosa will also bolster the backline.
With eleven players from last season’s grand final roster returning, the Drua Women are poised to combine fresh talent and experienced leadership, ensuring a strong foundation as they step into this new season.
