Drua Women Aim for Glory as Naisewa Steps Up in Semi-Final Showdown

With the leadership of season captain Vika Matarugu sidelined due to injury, Karalaini Naisewa will take command of the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women as they prepare for their fourth consecutive semi-final appearance in the Super W competition against the Queensland Reds in Brisbane this Sunday. Naisewa, who is the team’s leading try-scorer this season with four tries, aims to guide her squad to victory.

Joining the starting lineup will be veteran Bitila Tawake, who fills in for the injured Salanieta Nabuli at loosehead prop. In the front row, Tawake will partner with Ana Korovata as tighthead and Keleni Marawa as hooker. The lock positions will bolster strength with the addition of Mereoni Nakesa returning to team up with Asinate Serevi, while Alfreda Fisher and Salaseini Railumu will occupy the flanking roles, with Naisewa positioned as the number 8 loose forward.

In the backline, Kolora Lomani will lead as halfback, and Salanieta Kinita makes her return at flyhalf. The wings will be manned by Alowesi Nakoci on the left and Repeka Tove on the right. Ema Adivitaloga steps in for the injured Josivini Naihamu at inside centre, while Vice-Captain Vitalina Naikore will play outside centre. Luisa Tisolo is set to start at fullback.

For the bench strength, Head Coach Ifereimi Rawaqa has selected Isabella Koi as backup hooker, Loraini Senivutu and Tiana Robanakadavu for prop support, and Nunia Daunimoala covering locks. Rusila Nagasau backs up the loose forwards, and Setaita Railumu is available for halfback with Merewairita Neivosa covering the inside halves. The squad is completed by backline utility Evivi Senikarivi.

The semi-final will take place at Ballymore Stadium, kicking off at 3:05 PM. Fans are eager to rally behind the Drua as they strive for a chance to secure a place in the championship final. The team’s journey not only symbolizes their competitive spirit but also inspires emerging female athletes in the Pacific region, reflecting a growing support for women’s rugby and its bright potential for the future.
