The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s head coach, Glen Jackson, has delivered a clear and focused message to his team as they prepare for their second-round Super Rugby Pacific match against the NSW Waratahs. Following their disappointing loss to Moana Pasifika in the opening round, Jackson emphasizes the importance of matching their opponents’ intensity head-on.
“They like to bring the contest to us, and we’re going to bring the contest to them,” Jackson stated, highlighting the anticipated physical showdown between the forward packs. He expects a fierce battle right from the start, urging his players to rise to the occasion and give everything they’ve got.
Reflecting on their previous game, Jackson pointed to the Drua’s defensive difficulties, primarily caused by effective tactical kicking from Moana Pasifika, which left them at a disadvantage early on. “We didn’t start well… the wind was behind them, and they kicked very well, making it tough for us,” he admitted. Despite their sluggish start, the Drua displayed commendable resilience, fighting back after conceding three early tries.
Jackson expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s initial performance but found solace in their ability to regain control in the latter stages of the match. “It’s really disappointing for everyone involved… but I was happy with how Temo kept them side to bounce back from that,” he noted, acknowledging the leadership his players displayed during the game.
With hard lessons learned, Jackson is optimistic about a stronger opening against the Waratahs. Intensifying their focus, the Drua are determined to work together to ensure they start off on the right foot in tonight’s 8.35 pm clash. Jackson’s confidence in his squad’s ability to adapt and improve bodes well for their upcoming challenge, bringing hope for a vigorous display on the field.
