Iosefo Masi, a standout center for Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, has confirmed his return to fitness ahead of the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season. Speaking from Nadi last Friday, Masi expressed his excitement, stating he is currently in his second week of training and thoroughly enjoying it.

The 26-year-old athlete was sidelined due to a knee injury sustained during the Pacific Nations Cup, which led to his absence from the final against Japan in Osaka and the team’s European tour in November.

Additionally, Joe Tamani is making his return to the Drua after spending a year with Colomiers Rugby Club in the French ProD2. The dynamic backrower, fondly known as “Smokin’ Joe,” emphasized the importance of his rigorous pre-season training. “I am glad that we are finishing the pre-season, with seven weeks of tough training behind us,” said Tamani. He noted that he and his teammates had worked diligently, particularly as some players arrived unfit. He is eager to bring his improved fitness levels into the upcoming season.

Tamani previously contributed to the Drua’s journey in the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific, where the team advanced to the quarterfinals. In addition, he made his Test debut with the Flying Fijians during the PNC match against Samoa later that same year.

Looking ahead, Drua co-captain Frank Lomani expressed optimism about the Flying Fijians’ prospects for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. Lomani was part of the team that made history by defeating Wales in Cardiff, and he views this achievement as a positive step towards the future. He commented on the current squad’s potential, stating, “We are building up and finding ourselves in a good spot right now.”

With international games wrapping up, the focus shifts back to the Drua as they prepare for the Super Rugby Pacific competition, with their first match set for February. Lomani expressed anticipation for the upcoming games as the team gears up for an exciting season ahead.

This article highlights the resilience of the team and the importance of player fitness and morale, signaling a promising future for Fijian rugby in upcoming competitions. The timeline for recovery and reintegration into the team is an encouraging sign for fans and players alike.

In summary, both Iosefo Masi and Joe Tamani are back and fit, energizing the Fijian Drua team as they prepare for the new season. With strong leadership and confidence from players like Frank Lomani, the team is set to embark on a hopeful journey towards success in 2025 and beyond.
