Iosefo Masi, the standout center for Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, has confirmed his return to full training ahead of the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season. After suffering a knee injury during the Pacific Nations Cup, which sidelined him for the final against Japan and the subsequent European tour, Masi is eager to reclaim his place on the team. “I’m in the second week of training and I love it,” Masi shared enthusiastically.

In addition to Masi’s return, the Drua also welcomes back backrower Joe Tamani, who has joined after a year with Colomiers Rugby Club in France’s ProD2 competition. Known as “Smokin’ Joe,” Tamani expressed satisfaction with his fitness following a rigorous seven-week preseason training, stating, “We reached our goals as some of the boys came in unfit and are now ready to run in the field.”

Tamani was part of the Drua team that reached the Super Rugby Pacific quarterfinals in 2023 and made his Test debut for the Flying Fijians against Samoa during the Pacific Nations Cup.

Looking ahead, Drua co-captain Frank Lomani is optimistic about the Flying Fijians’ prospects for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. He pointed to the squad’s recent victory over Wales in Cardiff as a significant boost. “We are building-up and we are finding ourselves in a good spot right now with the squad that we have,” he noted. With international matches concluded, the players are now focused on preparing for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific competition, with their first match set for February.

The enthusiasm surrounding both players’ returns and the team’s future reflects a strong commitment to improvement and success. As the Drua prepare for the upcoming season, there’s a palpable sense of optimism that could translate into an exciting and competitive campaign.

This article highlights the resilience and determination of athletes returning from injury, emphasizing the importance of hard work and teamwork. Fans and supporters can look forward to an exciting season, filled with renewed energy and talent as the Fijian Drua gears up for the challenges ahead.
