Iosefo Masi, a prominent centre for Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, has confirmed he will be ready to play in the upcoming 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season. Speaking from Nadi, Masi shared that he is currently in the second week of training with the team and expressed his enthusiasm about being back on the field following a knee injury he sustained during the Pacific Nations Cup. This injury kept him from playing in the PNC final against Japan and also sidelined him during the November European Tour.
In addition to Masi’s return, Joe Tamani, the lanky backrower, is also making his way back to the Drua after a year in the French ProD2 competition with Colomiers Rugby Club. Nicknamed “Smokin’ Joe,” Tamani highlighted his dedication to pre-season training. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made during the intense seven-week training regimen, noting the team’s improvement in fitness levels.
Tamani was part of the Drua squad during the previous 2023 Super Rugby Pacific season, which saw them reach the quarterfinals. Additionally, he made his Test debut for the Flying Fijians during the Pacific Nations Cup against Samoa later that year.
Looking ahead, co-captain Frank Lomani is optimistic about the Flying Fijians’ prospects for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. After a successful tour in Europe, including a historic victory over Wales in Cardiff, Lomani believes the current squad is in a strong position and is eager to transition back into the Drua setup as they prepare for the Super Rugby Pacific competition.
With the excitement building ahead of their first game in February, both players and coaching staff are focused on a productive off-season and pre-season, underscoring a shared commitment to improvement and success.
This reaffirmation of team spirit and dedication to training sets a positive tone for the upcoming season, reflecting the resilience and determination of the players. Their hard work in the off-season could pay off, paving the way for a successful campaign in both the Super Rugby and international arenas.
Overall, the team’s readiness and morale signal a bright future as they gear up for the competitions ahead.
