Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has made significant changes to the team as they prepare for their upcoming Shop N Save Super Rugby match against the Highlanders this weekend. Notably, young half-back Philip Baselala has been named on the bench, marking his return to the matchday squad after a two-year hiatus. His last appearance was in Round 8 of 2023 against the Brumbies.

In other adjustments, Jackson has decided to shift Caleb Muntz to the fullback position, a move that aims to strengthen the backline. Furthermore, there is a shift in the leadership structure, with Mesulame Dolokoto and Iosefo Masi appointed as co-captains, stepping in for Tevita Ikanivere and Frank Lomani, who are unavailable due to injuries.

The starting forward pack will include Haereiti Hetet at loosehead prop, Mesake Doge at tighthead, and Dolokoto as hooker. The lock pairing features Mesake Vocevoce and Isoa Nasilasila, remaining unchanged from previous matches. In the back row, Joseva Tamani will start at blindside flanker, with Isoa Tuwai at openside flanker, while Elia Canakaivata assumes the role of number 8.

The backline sees Simione Kuruvoli listed as halfback, partnering with Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula at flyhalf. The wings are covered by Ponipate Loganimasi on the left and Selestino Ravutaumada on the right, while Inia Tabuavou plays inside center and Iosefo Masi outside center.

Baselala will provide back-up at halfback along with Isikeli Rabitu at flyhalf, and the matchday squad is rounded out by Tuidraki Samusamuvodre as a utility backline option.

With these strategic changes, the Drua aim to leverage both experience and emerging talent to improve their performance against a challenging Highlanders team. Fans are optimistic about Baselala’s return and the newly appointed co-captains leading the squad, which could spark a revitalization of the team’s spirit and effectiveness on the field. A successful outing in this match could bolster the team’s morale and confidence as they progress deeper into the Super Rugby season.
