Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has announced a strategic shift by moving Mesake Vocevoce to the position of blindside flanker for their upcoming match against Moana Pasifika. Traditionally playing as a lock, Vocevoce will wear the number six jersey in what Jackson describes as a tactical decision influenced by form, fitness, and the significant physical challenge presented by their opponents.

Vocevoce has showcased impressive athleticism during preseason, with Jackson noting that he reached a speed of 36 kilometers per hour, a feat that surpassed teammate Poni. “He’s fit. He’s the fittest forward on our team,” Jackson emphasized, highlighting Vocevoce’s readiness for the demands of the game.

The coach acknowledged that Vocevoce’s attributes from the lock position enhance the Drua’s strength as they prepare to face the formidable Moana Pasifika pack. “Moana has got a very big pack, so it just gives us a bit more size,” Jackson remarked, underlining the necessity for additional physical presence in the back row.

Selecting the loose forwards has presented a challenge for Jackson, as several players have demonstrated strong performances throughout the pre-season. Among those competing for the position, Joseva Tamani has made a notable impression at blindside, while Eto Waqa is recovering from minor surgery but participated in 30 minutes of the recent Skipper match. Jackson confirmed Waqa will benefit from additional training in the week ahead.

Moreover, the back row remains highly competitive, with Kitione Salawa, Motikai Murray, and Isoa Tuwai all vying for playing time. Jackson expressed that the intense internal competition is precisely what the Drua need as they gear up for the new season.

The Drua will kick off their 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific campaign against Moana Pasifika this Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka, with the match set to begin at 3:35 PM. Fans can catch the action live on FBC Sports. This anticipation for the match embodies the excitement surrounding the Drua’s preparations and the potential for an engaging season.
